Beth,

I am the Secretary for the Association, I suggest becoming a member ( on this website on the Forms page) for that $25 you get newsletters, the stallion issue, a membership list we have about 50 members you can see who lives near you there are several.   We have monthly telephone conference meetings where we actually talk to each other and can exchange information about what horses are available etc.

Do you already have horses or have you had horses and are you looking for a driving or riding horse.

Daniel so happy you got a Brabant, we do not have a formal registration process at this time the only registration is threw the Amerian Belgian Corperation for purebred Belgian/Brabants.   Many of us have purebred Brabants but they are unregistered threw the ABC for instance mine has a registered sire but her dam is purebred with papers that were incomplete.  So my mare is unregistered but is technically purebred Brabant.   The Brabant Association recognizes Purebred Registered Brabant/Belgians, unregistered purebreds and percentage horses ( Grade) that exhibit the breed standard of Brabants.   We have embarked upon the long term goal of creating a herdbook and more than likely making a real registration in the future.  If you would like to be a part of this community we have an association that you can join which will provide breeders and owners list and quarterly newsletter with lots of fellowship!  Please look on our Facebook page or here in the Webpage to download the Association Membership Application for 2016   Please post in the forum on the herdbook section so we can track your horse for future inclusion into the herdbook!  This is available to every one member or not  we want to track all of our horses

So very happy to meet you!  Sue J

A quick question.  How does one register a Brabant.  I finally purchased one, so someone can email me at [email protected]

Thanks.

After not being able to acquire the Ardenne horse that I wanted, I'm looking to adopt or buy a Brabant horse for companionship and capable of learning dressage, vaulting, or eventing.  I want a horse or two to grow with.  My experience has been working with horses in TN, specifically traumatized or abandoned horses.  It seems like just about any horse will come up to me the first time I meet them.

I'm open to a mare or a gelding.  The big thing is temperant, ability to learn, calmness, and playfulness.

Email me at [email protected] or call me at 612-202-3622.

Hi April,

Welcome here I think you will find kindred spirits.

This is a good spot to learn about the breed and see who is close to you, most of the socializing is on Facebook.

I highly suggest membership if you intend on buying a Brabant so you can network with the breeders that have horses.   We hold monthly membership telephone confrences for networking and fellowship.   Please contact me if you have any questions. Sue Jorgensen

I'm keenly interested in learning more. I'm getting my own farm set up and I'm a passionate supportor of "organic-get-back-to-the-basics- way- of- life." I believe in community supported agriculture, organic food, and bringing back rare and neerly extinct breeds of farm animals and farm fowl.

If you are interested in Brabants there are quite a few posted in the Forum section or on Facebook right now

I got linked in to this association website via the Northwest Michigan Draft Horse and Mule Association. I'm looking to get into farming with draft horses here in Northern Michigan and still doing research on what breeds would be best suited to what I would like to accomplish. Seeing the expansion of this site over the past few weeks is pretty cool and I hope to see more added.

Hi Angela, if you are seriously looking at this time there are several horses for sale that might meet what you are looking for,

Things to think about, are you willing or able to ship from back East it costs from 2500 -3800 to ship depending on many things.  I had some quotes that were less but you need to make sure that they are really checking the horses, are knowledgeable horsepeople, trailers that have the ability to bring your horse to you with the least amount of wear and tear.  Do they overnight if so where and how much extra for board.  Will they be shipping your horse in a double stall or single,

If you can ship it will broaden your selection

Would you want to start with a weanling or yearling?

If you only want a trained full grown horse the selections become very few and the shipping becomes more expensive because they take up the shipping room of two horses.

What percentage, Brabant do you want?  There are many nice 50%, but you may need or want a 100% registered mare ( Ask me more if you want to discuss how registration works)

Another question I concidered when I was looking was if I were to breed her later are the stallions on the West coast related to her.

Hello everyone,

Like most of you, I am a huge fan of the Brabant breed and would love to add a Brabant mare to our family. We live in Southern CA and have been searching for one for years. Any help would be appreciated. We could give a very draft horse knowledgeable an excellent home to our new mare. I have a 13 year old Percheron cross that is 19.1 hands tall and the love of my life. I've owned her since she was a foal and we would love another gentle giant to ride and love. Please keep us in mind if there are any out there. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so much.

Great story Susan Z I found the Brabants threw a friend who had a BLM branded mare, but she looked just like a brabant red roan with moderate feathering.  She was the best horse for beginers.

I was introduced to the Brabant breed rather by accident, but now I'm hooked.  In 2010 I was Just shopping around for a possible team mate for a 3/4 draft cross I'd been driving single, I found a little blue roan filly for sale close to me, only 90 miles.  I researched the breed a bit, and made arrangements to go see this filly.  That's how it started.  We brought one home, and after two weeks, I called the seller, Brian, and asked for one more.  It took a while, but in 2013, we brought home two more.  I like the easy going laid back temperament of these horses.  They are very intelligent as well.  They are willing most of the time, but can have a deep stubborn streak that you cannot give in to, or they'll try to out think you every time!!   Thank you Wind Dance Farms for coaching us along and helping us paint this farm with one of my favorite colors!!  BLUE!!!   You can find pictures of us on my Facebook page or on the Northwest Michigan Draft Horse and Mule Association Facebook page.

Hi there.  We recently purchased a Brabant mare named Mabel and were wondering if anyone knew of her.  We bought her from a farm in Texas that was supposed to export a group of horses overseas but the person backed out.  Mabel came with no paperwork or history of lineage/previous ownership, but being such a small community, I am hopeful someone will know her.  She is incredibly sweet and is quickly becoming a farm favorite.  The farm we got her from had two others...stallions...Fayard and Dexter.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And as soon as we get a picture or two we'll post it in the ID picture box. Thanks! Hope to meet a lot of people out there!
